Chlamydia & Gonorrhea EPI-AID Recommendations

In 2012, the Great Plains initiated an EPI-AID – a CDC mechanism “for public health authorities to request short-term (1-3 weeks) epidemiologic assistance… to make practical recommendations for actions to mitigate the urgent health problem” – to address high rates of Gonorrhea and Chlamydia in the Area. In addition to undertaking several local activities – including educating providers on epidemiological trends and recommendations, eliminating higher testing rates as a source of higher disease rates, evaluating IHS screening pratices to identify areas for improvement, and conducting interviews with local radio and newspapers to raise awareness – the partners involved also generated some recommendations for Service Units and communities in combating Chlamydia and Gonorrhea.

Below is an article published in the IHS Provider in December 2012 that summarizes the situation and resulting recommendations.
